6 Steps to a More Positive Life

Something about this time of year makes me feel like I am stuck in a rut. The "new year, new you" has rubbed off, and the swing of things seems to not be swinging enough in your direction. It's hard to stay positive in seasons like this one, but as my mom always says "this too shall pass." There's a hint of positivity!

6 steps to a more positive life. Six simple things that maybe will make your slow seasons, your rainy seasons, your drag-on-with-no-end seasons, a little more, well, positive! I hope this quick read gives you some hope in your week!

1.) Be grateful for how far you've come. Do you ever catch yourself looking down the road ahead of you, and you feel almost hopeless seeing there is so much more to go? Well turn around silly! Look how far you have come. One foot in front of the other, you made it this far, and one foot in front of the other, you will keep on trudging forward. Be grateful for those feet that walked you to where you are. Be grateful for the path that took you to where you stand today.

2. ) Surround yourself with positive people. The thing about positivity is that it is contagious! The more positive you are, the more positive others are and vice versa. Surround yourself with people that will help encourage you on your journey, and return the favor to them. Help be a light and others will become that light!

3.) Take a break every now and then. There is nothing worse than tiring yourself out to the point that you can't see anything good coming out of the work you are doing. Take a pause. Maybe its for an hour, maybe its for a day, maybe its a vacation to Disney World (if that's the case, please take me with you!) Whatever it may be for you, take a pause in order to rest up and have the positive energy to keep going forward.

4.) Enjoy the little things. I sometimes lay in bed before I go to sleep and walk through my day. Every little thing that happened that day from turning on the coffee pot to brushing my teeth, to taking a statistics exam to writing this blog post. When I look back at my day its a reminder of all the little things that made my day of what it is. It's nice to reflect on the good and the bad but also the good and the better.

5.) Leave yourself little notes. I'm cheesy, okay! Some of you know that I have a little post-it on my mirror that says "you are enough." It may seem cliche, but constant reminders become part of how we think and how we act. Maybe you need to leave a little note on your car door that says "today is going to be a good day!"

6.) Scroll through social media less. Think about how many hours you spend scrolling through social media in a day. Now think about how many times you have compared your life to someone else's highlight reel. Comparison is the thief of joy, and nobody has time for that! Your life is so much better because, it's your's! Be happy with who you are and where you are, and you might discover yourself being a positive light in your own life and the lives of others.

simply, sincerely,

Maddie
